Paint on Paper Towels

Another wonderful ATC background project from the book Artist Trading Card Workshop by Bernie Berlin.

I loved the way these backgrounds came out. The author says to use Lumiere paints but I used watercolors and Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Ink Gold. Then I stamped it with Ancient Page black and brushed Distress peeled paint glitter glue on the frog and regular yellow glitter glue on the Tranquil ATC. The stamps used were Hero Art's new Silhouette Ivy and Paula Best's frog and Iris woman.

What you need
brush
paper towels
Lumiere paints, inks or watercolors at least 3 different colors
gel medium
scissors
rubber stamps
quick-drying ink pad

Paper towels come in many types and textures. This technique can be used on whole paper towels, on torn pieces or layers of different towels or even mixed with other papers.

Step 1 - Apply paint to towel using a brush, randomly apply paint to the paper towel. (If you cover the entire towel you will have enough to make several cards.) Set the paper towel aside to dry.

Step 2 - Tear the paper towel into pieces and layer on enough pieces to cover the card, using gel
medium. (I used Studio gel medium.)

Step 3 - Trim the excess paper towel with scissors. One option you have now is to stamp it with a large stamp and a quick-drying ink.
