I just walked in the door and my cat gave me a dirty look. Like she was going to waste away to nothing from my neglect. It IS midnight and neither of us has eaten anything but a few cookies and bugs all day. (I had the cookies - actually ginger scones - Thanks Christine!! - and the cat ate the bugs).

The store was open until 8pm tonight and it was busy all day! When I got to work at 1pm, there was a line from the desk all the way to the back office! Thank you everyone who came and shopped today!!! I met so many cool people and even set up a playdate for me and my daughter. Yah!
There is still plenty of good stuff left and I spent the last four hours restocking and tidying the chaos. So there is fresh chaos for tomorrow's customers.

Everything in the store is 50% off (that's off the retail prices). And all of you who subscribed to our newsletter and were getting the "Secret Coupons" - the secret was an extra 20%... so that means everything was 70% off for you. So I'll do the same thing tomorrow, the very last day of the sale. So fill a basket or two with stuff and bring it to the counter. Say "I got the secret coupon, but I didn't print it out." That's the secret password. Very important. We'll automatically, and super-secretly add the discount to your slip. And don't stand in line telling everyone around you WHAT the secret sale is!!!?
By the way, 70% off is a freaking lot of money. So if you can't decide between two things, buy them both.

And please plan on being patient. People are buying MORE stuff, but we still have to scan the barcodes and add it all up. Math is hard. But Alex and Jillian don't have school tomorrow so they'll be in the shop helping. They are High School Kids and have more stamina and brain cells. And my mother won't force the poor innocent customers to help her bag stuff. If you bring ginger scones or chocolate chip cookies, please be sure to bring a lot because we have to share with all the people waiting in line. And my mom likes her coffee with milk. You know, just in case you were wondering...

Warner Holiday Shopping Tour

Oh dear, it is almost 1 am and I am so exhausted. I will not email a separate secret coupon tonight. This post will have to do as your coupon, OK?

Can't Come to Wingdoodle? - Online Shopping, of a sort

Are you pouting because you keep seeing the really great specials I keep sending out as secret coupons (click here to sign up for YOUR own coupons)... you don't live anywhere near New Hampshire or you just can't seem to make it up to the store? Yeah, that's really tough! But I am trying to clear out the inventory in the next few weeks, so I could really use your help - and you could probably still use a bunch of holiday gifts, right? We will be closed on Thursday to enjoy the company of family, eat pie, and be incredibly grateful for the wonderful things that happened this year. Yes, there were some pretty bad things too... but I think we can manage one day of concentrating on the good stuff! ;-D

And that is our attitude at the store too. Wingdoodle may be closing, but we think of it as an opportunity to do something new, so we are actually quite excited! Wingdoodle's new store hours will be:

Monday to Wednesday open by appointment.
(Let us know when you will be driving through town, and we will do our best to be here for you.)

We will keep these hours until Christmas, then we will close the store for the rest of the winter while we regroup and figure out what comes next. We may reopen again in the Spring. Or not. Who knows?

The GOOD news for YOU is that we need to clear out as much stock as possible before the holidays. So there will be lots of sales and really great discounts coming up! The specials will get better and better as we get closer to closing, but we also will not be reordering. If there is something you have had your eye on for a while, don't wait too long to get it!

Tonight will be my last class at Wingdoodle and tomorrow will be my last day. I can't express how sad I am at this turn of events. I will truly miss all the friends I have made over the last 3 years working here. Adele's last day was today and Krystin's was yesterday. Kay will be handling the store alone now.

Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas. Good bye and thank you to one and all who brought such joy to Adele, Krystin and myself. See you on facebook.

Perfect Pearls, Metallic Mixative and Black Glossy Paper

This technique was such a hit at the Fall Foliage Festival this weekend I decided to do it as a blog project. It is fast, easy and the end result is beautiful.

Supplies you will need:
Adirondack Alcohol Ink Mixative color of your choice - silver, gold or copper
Handle with felt
Blending Solution
Perfect Pearls color of your choice - copper, pewter or gold
Mini Misters
Black Glossy Paper
Versa Mark Embossing Ink Pad

1. Cut card to make an A-2 size card 4 1/4" x 5 1/2".
2. Cut black glossy paper to 4" x 5 1/4".
3. Attach felt to handle.
4. Drip some mixative onto your felt then add a small amount of blending solution (where it looks like a clear liquid on the felt is the blending solution) then pounce on your glossy paper. Do not rub or swirl as that takes the black off. Just go up and down all over the glossy paper in different directions. You can also drip blending solution directly onto glossy paper and not pounce, it will move the metallics and you will get a neat halo effect wherever the solution lands.

5. Ink up the stamp of your choice with a clear embossing ink, I used Versa Mark.

6. Stamp the image and then brush with Perfect Pearls. A little bit of Perfect Pearls goes a long ways so just pick up a small amount on the end of your brush. Since you are only using one color of Perfect Pearls put it on in a circular motions pressing it into the inked area. You don't have to do it hard but give is a little pressure. Your stamped image will appear like magic. Then lightly dust it off and using a paper towel going in a circular motion again buff it.

7. Mix a small amount of Perfect Pearl with water in a mini mister. Do not fill to the top with water leave room so that you can shake the mixture.

8. Holding the card in one hand the mister in the other point mister above card and let the mist gently fall onto the card. Let dry.

9. Put card together.

Quick, easy and beautiful. The possibilities are endless.

October 2nd's Technique Tag Class

Had a great technique class today. Taught the ladies how to use Distress ink pads, alcohol inks, Perfect Pearls, Distress embossing powder and how to do a transfer using Sheer Heaven and scrapbook paper. All the tags came out beautiful. I love how I give people the same things and they put it together differently. I think the tag with the orange rosette and feathers was most every one favorite. They also did a tag making a plaid with alcohol inks, I forgot to take a picture of it, but they came out really nice. The technique tag classes produce some wonderful results. They are so much fun to teach and I hope fun to take.

We'll be using Sheer Heaven in this class. If you don’t know what Sheer Heaven is this class is a must. The class will also touch on alcohol inks (always a favorite) Distress inks and embossing powders and Perfect Pearls and Distress Reinkers. Fall Technique Tag Class

Sunday September 25th was my Fall Tag Class, (we decided to start calling the class tag technique boot camp). The ladies used alcohol inks, Distress Inks pads, Distress re-inkers, Archival Inks, Distress Crackle paint, Distress Stains, paint Dabbers, Distress embossing powder, and Studio Sticky Back Canvas.

They learned how to make their own custom stamp pad with the re-inkers and cut n' dry felt pad. I showed them how to make wonderful layers of color for backgrounds with 3 different techniques with the alcohol inks. They distressed backgrounds with the Distress ink pads, made a haunted house with the Alterations Rickety House die cut, crackle paint and Distress ink pads. I also showed them how to make a canvas transfer using sticky back canvas, scrapbook paper and water. All in all it was a very busy class. I am glad I gave them all printed out instructions for each tag so they can go home and recreate what they did.

I think one of the favorite techniques was making plaid with alcohol inks and glossy paper. The technique is so easy and the effect is stunning. I am going to do this technique again for my October 2nd class. I think I still have a couple of spaces open for this class. If you are interested please call Wingdoodle and sign up. I had people bing their lunch and we took about a 20 minute break and relaxed around the table and talked a little bit. If you are signed up for any of my tag classes please bring a lunch or snack.

I will be teaching an Outdoors Watercolor class this Saturday, October 1st. The forecast is cloudy but sunny so bring your paints and learn about color mixing and atmospheric color change while enjoying the breeze and foliage of our New Hampshire autumn season!

Here are the class details:

Outdoors Watercolor
Bring your paints, brushes and paper to the outdoors. We’re going down to the covered bridge, and maybe the park, to capture some real autumn colors. There’s nothing like painting outside, but bring a light jacket in case fall has already gotten chilly! I’ll be teaching more color mixing and brush manipulation while we’re out there.
Date: Saturday, October 1st, 12-3pm
Rain Date: TBA if needed.

Colored Pencil Workshop

This workshop is all about the colors! We’ll be learning how to draw and shade with just the colored pencils and how to use colored pencils with stamping. Paper will be provided to use, all you need to bring is a 12-color set of Prismacolor Pencils.

I had so much fun with my Paper Transformed class in the spring that I am doing a mini version. We will be touching upon a lot of different techniques in a short period of time. Our theme will be fall so there will be a lot of colors involved. We’ll use Studio paints, alcohol inks, Distress reinkers and inks, Distress Stains and Perfect Pearl. Bring your lunch. Iris Folding Class

Christmas Iris Folding Class
Learn the fine art of Iris Folding. We will be making several Christmas cards and a kimono using beautiful Washi papers from Hanko. The kimono comes out so beautifully that you will want to frame it. Be prepared to use about an hour picking out your own papers which are included in the class fee. Bring your class kit, including Scotch tape, double sided tape, removable tape, exacto knife, cutting mat and scissors.

Izzie's Cuties

Adele's 10-year-old niece was visiting from Baltimore. She is outrageously creative and paid a visit to Wingdoodle to check out all our creative kits. She was thrilled to find so many and especially the ones from Klutz, one of her favorites. After much discussion she decided on their new paper twirling kit.

When she got home she proceeded to create all these wonderful creatures. Each one is cuter than the next…her favorite is the bug on the lower right! I am thrilled that she was able to put this kit to such great creative uses…I’m looking forward to her next bunch of cuties. Thanks for sharing, Izzie!!

Fun Book Marks

I found the pattern for this book mark the other day and thought it'd make a cute make and take. We did them this past weekend in the store. They are so easy, Jen and I decided they'd make a great blog project for back to school. Everyone needs book marks, no more folding down the corner of the pages. We even did Zentangle for all you Zentangle people out there. A great book mark for Sandy's books. So lets get started....................

Materials needed:
6x6 inch paper
3x3 inch patterned paper
Ink pad
stamps
watercolor paper
Twinkling H20
Detail scissors
Glue stick
GlueArt Perma Glue Squares
Water brushes
Pearl Pen

If you want to Zentangle use whatever Zentangle supplies you have....pens, black paper, white or cream paper

Making Pocket

1. Cut 6x6 paper diagonally so you have two triangles.
2. Find the center of the triangle and fold the two longest corners to the center...meeting but not overlapping.
3. Fold those corners downward to the center to create a square...do not glue down you are making a pocket.
4. Cut a 3 x3 square and glue inside the pocket

5. Adhere embellishment on top, that is what holds the pocket together.

Making Butterfly

1. Spritz your water color paper with water.
2. Make a background with the Twinkling H2Os.
3. Let your back ground dry completely or dry with an embossing gun.
4. Stamp your image and let dry.
5. Cut out image...cut black string for antenna's and adhere with a glue square.
9. Adhere butterfly to pocket.

Zentangle

1. Draw pattern on 3x3 white or cream paper
2. Draw smaller Zentangle to adhere to the front
3. I used a black Pearl Pen for the center of the flower,

You will become addicted to making these little book marks. The possibilities are endless. Stamp image and color with pencils, markers, paint, whatever you want.
You don't even have to stamp...just adhere paper flowers, buttons, die cut etc.
You can make them part of a card by slipping it on a corner and then people will have a little gift they can use later. Have fun. You can post pictures on our facebook page of your book marks if you would like too. We'd love to see them.

Wax Paper Batik

This is a technique from the book, Paper Transformed, and the project was done by Melissa, a friend and regular customer at Wingdoodle. Melissa's son was graduating from college and Melissa wanted to do something special for him. She decided to make this tag book scrapbook using the wax paper batik technique she learned from Paper Transformed. When she brought it in to show me I asked her if I could put it on our blog as a project. So here it is.

The delicate fractured lines that occur on batik-dyed fabric are replicated with this technique. It works on most papers (matte or glossy) and vellum.

Supplies
paper
scrap paper
dye-based inks (Distress inks work great)
wax paper
paper towel
felt pressing cloth
iron pattern

Instructions
1. Take the wax paper and crumple it repeatedly until the desired texture is achieved.
2. Lay the felt on a table or ironing board, and then place the scrap paper on the felt. Lay the crumpled wax paper on the scrap paper and place the paper for printing on top of the wax paper.
3. Iron with a hot iron.
4. After the paper cools, apply the ink to reveal the pattern and wipe off any excess ink.

Zentangle for Kidz Book Signing Party

Today Wingdoodle hosted a book signing party for Sandy and her new book, Zentangle for Kidz. She gave a mini Zentangle class at 1pm. It was a great success and everyone enjoyed it. We had food which my daughter Kayla made and, as usual, it was good. The make-and- take was a pin you could tangle yourself. Wingdoodle was very crowded for about 2 hours during the party and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. There are more pictures on Facebook; check them out.

Flowers - Not Just For Spring

We all have stamps in our collection that we haven't used in a while. I was cleaning my stamp room and came across some of the Petal Series from Outlines Rubber Stamps and decided to make some seasonal cards. As you can see you can use the same stamps over and over again and change the feeling and look of the card by the colors and different papers you use.

Supplies:
Variety of colored card stock
Variety of printed paper
Ancient Page or Archival Ink Black ( Neither of them will smudge with the Memento marker)
Memento markers and colored pencils ( I like the Memento marker if I want more intense color)
Outlines Petal Series Stamps in various sizes
Whatever Outlines Leaves you have on hand
Pearl Pens
Stickles Glitter Glue
Detail Scissors
GlueArt individual permanent glue squares
Mounting tape

Since all the cards are different I am just going to give you general directions that can be used on any of the cards.

1. Stamp your choice of stamps on your choice of paper with black ink.
2. Color with markers or pencils
3. Cut out with detail scissors
4. Layer flowers with mounting tape.
5. Attach flowers to card with glue squares.
6. Attach leaves with glue squares under the flowers.
7. After your card is together embellish with Pearl pens or glitter glue.

Watercolor Class

My Beginner's Watercolor class went great on Saturday. I got to teach a lot of techniques and got to do some painting of a still life to show how I work. I have a lot more classes coming up including Intro to Drawing, Colored Pencil and even more Watercolor classes! =) In October I'll be teaching an outdoors watercolor class which should be a blast too. Can't wait to paint those autumn trees!

OOTS Rocks Warner

There is a small group in Warner, NH called Out of the Studio, OOTS for short. We meet upstairs at Wingdoodle once a month. At our last meeting we decided it would be fun to do art on rocks and place them around town for people to pick up and take home, Random Acts of Art.

There are tags on the rocks saying pick me up and take me home. On the bottom it says Random Acts of Art for you. We all did something different on our rocks. Everything from Zentangle, calligraphy, collage, photography and some sparkle.

Do not be shy if you find a rock - please take it home with you. If you would like to let us know at Wingdoodle that you found a rock, we'd love to know. Look on Wingdoodle's facebook page, there are lots of pictures and they might even give you a hint on where to find the rocks. Have fun looking for all these neat little packages of art.

Fiber Paste - Making a Skin

I was going through a book, Surface Treatment Workshop by Darlene Olivia McElroy & Sandra Duran Wilson and came across a chapter on Fiber Paste. Well, it just so happens I have some Fiber Paste from Golden that I had gotten years ago and never used. So better late then never. I read the chapter and decided it didn't look or sound too hard. It is really cool stuff that looks like paper when it dries. You can paint, stamp, mold, rust, cut, rip and stencil on it once it is dried. The only drawback is you have to wait for it to completely dry, which I find very hard to do. The directions below are for making what is called a skin. You can use it directly on a canvas, watercolor paper or panel but this project is for a skin.

Supplies:

Palette knife

Fiber paste ( I used Golden)

Parchment paper or Plastic Wrap

Acyclic paint ( I used Adirondack acrylic paint dabber Gold) I absolutely love the dabbers - they are so easy to use.) You can use whatever color you want.

Art Glitter (Gale Glitz Gold) optional

Step 1: Using the palette knife, spread the fiber paste onto your surface of choice, whether plastic wrap or parchment paper for a skin. While the paste is still wet, add texture if desired. Let the fiber paste dry completely before painting because it will be mushy till dry.

Step 2: You can lift it from the plastic wrap or parchment when dry, and you have a fibrous, flexible paper. If you are going to print onto it, a digital ground needs to be used to ensure a crisper image.

Step 3: Paint

Step 4: Add art glitter. (Optional)

Step 5: Allow paint to dry completely.

I stamped on the smooth side of the fiber paste after it dried with Archival Ink Jet Black. Then I cut out the shape I wanted and using a paint brush, I painted Diamond Glaze over it. A little trick I learned to help get rid of bubbles in the Diamond Glaze: give it a small spritz with alcohol, if all of them don't disappear give it another quick spritz. Set aside to dry completely. Do not touch while wet - it will leave finger prints.

Hello My Name is Amineko: The Story of a Crafty Crochet Cat

Amineko is Japanese and means crochet cat Ami=crochet and neko=cat. Krystin thought it was such a cute project she bought the book and proceeded to teach herself how to crochet. The black cat below is the one she crocheted. She said the directions were really easy to follow and she was able to crochet the cat in a matter of 2 days working off and on.

The book is divided into two sections. Part one is like a comic book that follows the journey of Amineko the Crochet Cat and his crocheted friends as they eat, sleep, and have lots of fun and adventures. Hundreds of color photographs tell the adorable tales and mischief that Aminko and his friends find themselves in. Part 2 of the book comes with complete step-by-step instructions with photographs for creating an Amineko of your very own and personalizing this cute cat with different facial expressions, clothing and even bedding.

Krystin's Amineko will be hanging out in the library section of Wingdoodle for awhile so come by and visit her.

Simonds 2nd Grade

New Zentangle Supplies

Zentangle has come out with some new tiles in black and also in trading card size in black and the traditional cream. You can use the white gel pens, white prismacolor pencils and white charcoal penscils on the black trading cards and tiles. The 55 piece tiles now come in a nice natural color box, it makes it really easy to carry the tiles around with you and a nice place to keep the finished tiles.

Kayla's Smash Book

I showed my daughter Kayla the video of the Smash books and asked her what she thought. She immediately told me she wanted one. Of course I had to buy it for her.

This afternoon she came by Wingdoodle with a bag of stuff and her Smash book. For about 3 hours she went through her stuff, cutting and gluing. The pages above are what she did today.

She looked so happy and had fun remembering things as she went through her mementos. This would be a great ongoing project for the summer and a really great gift for someone going off to college in September.

Kay ordered the most beautiful watercolor books which we received yesterday. They are archival quality, acid free drawing paper, 100% cotton fiber, internally and surface sized 140lb/300gsm paper with 48 deckle edge pages. They come 3 different sizes 6 1/2" x 6 1/2", 8" x 8", 12" x 9". I absolutely love the look of the deckle edged watercolor paper. Just holding the journal will inspire you to watercolor.

Entries for our Munny Contest

We had 13 entries in our Munny contest, 5 adults and 8 juniors. It was so much fun and the customizations were as imagative as they were diversed. I will put pictures up of the party and the winners probably Monday but I just had to put up the pictures of the entries today. It was all very exciting and fun and the birthday cake was delicious. We will be doing it again for Halloween so put your thinking cap on and start designing now. Also Krysten will be offering a special class on how to customize your Munny in August, so watch the blog for information.

Adding Zentangles with a Flourish

This past weekend I did a make and take with the Hero Art Fabulous Flourish and the new Tim Holtz Distress Stains. I left everything on the demo table and when Krystin and Jen came in Monday morning they started playing with the stains and the stamp. Krystin took it a step further and added Zentangles to the flourish. I liked it so much I decide to do a blog project on how it was done. I love it when someone take something I have done and makes it better. They go the one extra step that makes it extra special and that is what Krystin did when she added the Zentangles.

Supplies:
Tim Holtz Distress Stains (whatever colors you would like to make the flourish) I used peeled paint, antique linen and dusty concord. Krystin used wild honey, broken china and dusty concord.
Mister bottle mixed with water and perfect pearls.
Large stamp - I used the Hero Art Fabulous Flourish (large stamps with a lot of solid surface work best).
Micron pen 01
White cardstock
Black cardstock for card cut to A2 size

Step 1: Starting with your lightest color daub the stamp wherever you what it to be light. Then add your next color and then the next if you have more then two. (If your stains overlap it doesn't matter you can wipe off the daubers, it won't contaminate them.) Don't over daub to much though because you will get mud.

Step 2: Spritz the stamp lightly. ( I hold it above the stamp, spray straight out and let the mist fall onto the stamp.) You can also skip this step if you want a darker image.

Step 3: Stamp your image onto the white cardstock. At this point you can spritz again and get a lighter image if you want to. Let the card dry naturally or use a heat gun to speed up the drying process.

Step 4: After it is completely dry. Use your 01 Micron to follow the lines of the flourish and use the different colored areas as your strings.

Step 5: Mount on black cardstock.

You have a quick, easy and elegant looking card. Have fun.

Layered Decayed Backgrounds

Why would you make a decayed looking background? I wondered the same thing. But then I thought it looked like a really cool way to use a lot of the Ranger products I have hanging around my craft room This technique comes from Jill Geraghty-Groves articles in Somerset Studios March/April 2011 issue called Layer After Layer and is very addictive. I want to keep doing canvas after canvas, each canvas looks totally different and was so much fun to create and watch develop. I love doing backgrounds, it's what to do with them after the background is done that I find the most difficult. I use butterflies a lot in everything I do. I like the delicate look, the colors and the way they soften what could otherwise be a rather harsh looking piece.. So here are the steps to creating your own decayed background ( I used a lot of the directions from the article).

Tools & Materials

Acrylic paint
Adhesives - Diamond Glaze or Glossy Accents, glue stick, and Tacky Glue. (Whatever is appropriate for the materials you are using.)
Alcohol inks
Crackle paint (Ranger)
Embellishments
Die Cuts
Photograph & other ephemera
Fibers
Scissors
Spray bottle filled with water
Gesso
Glossy or Matte Medium
Sponge applicators

1. Prime canvas with a layer of gesso; this gives more grip for future layers, and will enhance your choice of mediums for subsequent layer. Let dry completely.

2. Tear a selection of vintage papers, manuscripts, letters, old dictionaries or whatever you want to make a collage. I keep on hand stamped, colored and cut out images to use in projects and I have an old dictionary that I can rip up.. Attach them to your canvas with matte or glossy medium applied with a sponge applicator.. Allow to dry completely.

3. Using Golden's Titan Buff mixed with gel medium, paint over the entire surface of the canvas If there is an area in particular that you want to highlight, use a baby wipe to gently remove some of the paint. Allow to dry completely.

4. Using a selection of Ranger Distress Crackle Paints ( I used Picket Fence, Antique Linen and Broken China), roughly apply a few layers of paint to the edges. I started with the lightest and let each layer dry before applying another layer. You can use a heat gun to speed up the drying process. ( The paint crackles better if you allow it to air dry for a while and when it starts to crackle finish drying it with a heat gun.)

5. Have s spray bottle filled with water ready. Working very quickly, apply a few drops of selected alcohol ink colors ( I used Lemonade, Lettuce and Hazelnut) to the corners of your canvas. Before they get a chance to dry, quickly spray over the colors with water. You'll see that the alcohol inks start to drip beautifully down your canvas and seep into the cracks of the crackle paint, bringing out even the tiniest crackle. Keep adding ink and water until you are happy with the result. Allow your piece to dry completely before decorating.

6. While I was waiting for my piece to dry I distressed a small tag with peeled paint and tea dye Distress Inks. I stamped a flourish from Impression Obsession and finished with a saying from Tim Holz Stuff to Say cling stamp set. I cut a piece of foam core to fit the back of my tag and attached it with Glossy Accents ( this is to give the tag support and also to make it dimensional ). I attached the fibers and then used the Glossy Accents to attach the tag to the canvas. I attached a clock from the Tim Holtz's idea-ology also with Glossy Accents.

Have fun working with a variety of colors and materials, you will be amazed at the different effects you can create.

Birdeer Munny

Wingdoodle's tag line is "Where great ideas take flight!" and this is a great example of an idea taking flight. This little guy Birdeer was dropped off yesterday at Wingdoodle to join our other entries for the Munny contest. It even has little Birdeer eggs in the nest she built! E-Z BOWZ and Pearl Pens

The weekend of June 4th Adele and I took a trip to
Springfield, MA for the Heirloom Stamp show. There was so much stuff there plus tons of stamps and lots and lots of die cuts. The most popular item seems to have been the Pearl Pens which we are fully stocked with except for the Lilac.

The other thing that seemed to be flying out the door were the E-Z Bow Z bow makers. Believe it or not there are a lot of bow challenged people out there. I have given up counting the number of times someone has told me that they can't make a bow. This bow maker makes perfect little bows every time. Stop into Wingdoodle and someone will demo the bow maker for you and then let you try it. You will be amazed at how easy it is to use.

Books, Books and more Books

Kay is always finding and ordering wonderful creative books for Wingdoodle. Last time I purchased Paper Transformed which ended up being a great book and I made a series of 4 class from it. Kay has done it again and ordered another exciting, creative book called Surface Treatment Workshop and it looks like I will be doing more classes based on a book but this time it will be on Surface Treatments. It covers using such mundane things as aluminum foil, masking tape and shaving cream to create interesting and fun backgrounds and textures. I love doing these types of classes so make sure you keep an eye out for the class schedule coming out in September. If you can't wait till then Wingdoodle has one book left but don't despair Kay will be ordering more.

Monday May 30th Wingdoodle will be closed for Memorial Day. We would like to thank all the men and women who have served and are now serving this great country, especially my daughter Kayla, son Nicholas, my niece Heather's boyfriend Adam and Nick's friend Matt. These are only the ones I know by name but there are many others from the state of New Hampshire and from Kearsarge Regional High School. I am so proud of them and this country. Thank you also for all the cards that people have made and donated to Operation Write Home.

Fairy Houses

Fairy Houses

It was a little overcast Saturday but it did not discourage people from coming out for Warner's third annual Spring into Warner. The kids decorated butterflies with paint and crayons, made wands, got their face painted and built fairy houses. There was music, art and dance to enjoy. The church had a meatloaf supper in the evening and there was a dance at the town hall.

Thank you to everyone who made this event a success. Thank you Mary for running the Fairy house building project next to Wingdoodle. Thank you Krystin for designing the OOTS fliers and also the butterfly project and running it. If anyone is interested in the Out of the Studio group or learning more about it we have a facebook page or when you come into Wingdoodle we can give you the information. Thank you Kay for the loan of the tent, thank you to everyone who helped set it up, take it down and helped with the butterfly project. I think about 60 or 70 butterflies were painted, I visited the tent one time and there were about 10 butterflies hanging from the top of the tent drying.

Open Studio Class

My series of classes Paper Transformed ended with a wonderful Open Studio. This is one of the finished projects made by Adele Sanborn. She wanted someplace to display the tags she made over the last 4 weeks, so her last project was this beautiful canvas with a little box where she can keep her tags. She used a number of the techniques she learned in the classes to create it. I am going to run this series again as separate classes in the fall.

Spring into Warner

Transfers and Resist Class

My series of technique classes are coming to an end. It has been so much fun and I absolutely love seeing the results of what I am teaching. I learn from my students just as much as I teach them. From the colors people pick to use, to the images (if I give them a choice) shows how individual we each are and how unique. Doing this series has really stretched me as a (dare I say) teacher and artist.. I always just considered myself a stamper.

The journey started when Sandy taught us Zentangle and then continued when Adele Sanborn started working at Wingdoodle and started pushing me to do more. So I have Sandy and Adele to thank for the direction I am headed in, whatever direction that is, it is not where I started. Therefore I am growing and that is what life is about... learning, changing, growing, improving, letting go, leaving behind, and hopeful becoming a better person. I want to do these classes again in the fall so if anyone is interested please let me know. You can also set up your own classes with 3 or more people.

I have one more class next weekend May 7th and we will be taking everything we've learned and doing a 8x8 canvas. If you would like to join this last class just let Wingdoodle know. It is $30.00 and you have to come with some concept of what you want to do. I have about 20 sample tags in the store that you can go through and get ideas. I told most people to pick their favorite techniques and work with it. In the last class we learned to build a collage, do transfers with Sheer Heaven and Sticky Back Canvas and do a resist with acrylic paint. I will be at the store Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday if anyone has questions or would like help in making decisions about this last class.

Fairy Finery

Wingdoodle is getting ready for Spring into Warner with Fairy Dust, Fairy Tea Sets, Brownie Bowling sets and some really cute and colorful feathered boas that Lilah so graciously agreed to model. The boas are made in the United States by a company in Minnesota. It comes in yellow, 2 different pinks, lilac and purple. Outlines' Serendipity series has arrived at Wingdoodle. If you like to color, these whimsical and sweet stamps are just the stamps for you. Pictured are just a sampling of what you can do with them.
